Our team is able to draw on the wealth of knowledge and experience that has been developed in the business across a broad range of industries and sectors, throughout the continent to provide clients with advice that is practical, implementable and cost-effective. Having worked in over 27 African countries, we know both the opportunities and challenges that performance on the continent presents, and we bring this to every solution that we deliver.
At Talbot & Talbot our experience is fully incorporated into our designs to deliver a robust solution that will work in the most trying of circumstances. An intimate knowledge of equipment and process enables our team to design solutions that deliver maximum performance across Africa. Our integration and formal feedback loop from our Operations Business Unit-who advise and manage water, waste water treatment and associated utilities plants on a full-outsourced basis-means that we know what works.
We fully integrate all aspects of engineering design services including Process, Chemical, Electrical and Process Control, Mechanical, Structural and Civil to into our solutions, and ensure that our solutions fully integrate with the larger project and/or plant.
Our EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management) services provide our clients with the surety of a team which has Project Management experience across Africa, by providing full management services for the project on behalf of the client. In doing so, we lead all of the design, procurement and construction work, as well as ensure that the whole project is completed against the triangle of project deliverables.
By far the majority of our experience is in EPC (Engineering Procure and Construction) type contracts, whereby Talbot Projects take total accountability for all of the design, procurement, construction, commissioning and hand over of the project to the client.
Typically both our EPC & EPMC contracts are “governed” by FIDIC contracts, although bespoke client-specific contracts are agreed upon, where applicable.
Each project is unique and its success is dependent on a high level of commercial and technical management expertise. Our team has a wealth of experience in dealing with contract documentation, company and project finance, and associated legal matters. Our projects take into account all key aspects: construction costs, compliance with deadlines, quality, value engineering, whole life cycle costs, risk exposure, post-construction services and functional warranties.
Our procurement and logistics team is responsible for managing purchasing activities through Invitations to Bid, Requests for Proposal, Requests for Quotation and contract negotiations with our various suppliers and sub-contractors. Further, our team ensures the timeous delivery of equipment to site to ensure a successful project outcome for our client.
Safety is a key priority on our projects. On all projects, we ensure compliance with the requirements of local legislation, and where this is lacking with the South African Health and Safety Act (No. 85 of 1993), which is seen as a bench mark on the continent, as a minimum. Where relevant we will also apply our clients’ standards to the work that we do.
Our Health & Safety officer will conduct a risk assessments for our projects and associated activities and prepare a Health and Safety file which will refer to all policies & procedures, key performance indicators and will include a project health and safety plan as well as task specific assessments, mitigations and plans for use and reference on site. Regular internal audits are carried out during the life of the project to assess and ensure performance.
